Finding heart for the new season

Thursday, Jul 07, 2005

First day of training heart checks for players were introduced yesterday, Wednesday, and John Terry and Paulo Ferreira (hidden) underwent them along with everyone else.

The checks were for any rare or potentially rare defects which would normally go undiscovered and which have led to one or two high-profile tragedies in recent years.

Dr Duncan Dymond, a heart surgeon and East Stand season ticket holder, led the checks, and remarked: “These are unique athletes and some of them have hearts like race horses. It’s not surprising they can run all day.”

His uncle, in 1948, carried out the first medical by an English football club of a player purchased from another club. The player was Roy Bentley, coming to Chelsea from Newcastle. Roy went on to be Chelsea’s first champion captain. Now here’s Duncan testing Chelsea’s second championship captain.

А фотка-то какая, фотка! Он там голый, что ль, лежит? В таком случае держите мои тапочки. Снился мне сегодня...
